Under the Honorary Chairmanship of Her Excellency, the Rt. Hon. Adrienne Clarkson C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., Governor General of Canada - and in the company of the distinguished Canadians who form The State Hermitage Museum Foundation of Canada Inc., you participate, through your membership fee, in large-scale projects at The Hermitage that are recognized internationally as Canada's contribution to the preservation of the works of one of the world's most important museums.
In Canada, your membership card gives you entry - usually free or at a discount - to special activities and events such as lectures, dinners, concerts, Embassy parties, invitations to exhibition openings, field trips, and participation in a Russian study group. We have a School Programme which introduces young people to the riches of the Hermitage collections and, scholarships that provide annual travel grants between The Hermitage and Canadian Art institutions to both Canadian and Russian students, as well as opportunities for Art History and Museum Studies students. There is an annual Tour to Russia with exclusive entry to The Museum on Mondays when it is closed to the public. The Foundation is also responsible for a series of important exhibitions from The Hermitage, the first two of which broke attendance records in Toronto and Montreal.
If you are travelling to St. Petersburg, we give you a Hermitage Access Card that provides free entry, without queuing, to The Museum, The Menshikov Palace (which is affiliated with The Hermitage) and the newly opened General Staff Building destined to be the Musée d'Orsay of St. Petersburg; to special tours of the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory with its 30,000 exhibits and to the newly opened Staraya Derevnya restoration complex - a state of the art storage facility which houses much of The Museum's furniture, carriages, archaeological exhibits and Western European paintings. As well, The Friends are invited to special events such as exhibition previews and concerts in The Hermitage Theatre; to discounts in the onsite museum shops, kiosks and the internet e-shop; and, The Friends are welcome to use the new internet café in the Rastrelli Gallery of The Winter Palace, at discounted rates.
And finally, The Friends' newsletter "The Bulletin" will keep you abreast of all these activities at The Hermitage and at home.
